However, according to her husband, living there was a way of getting away and focusing on both Geranid's and Ashir's own experiments.[1]
Her Calling is science, specifically spren studies.[1]
Experimentation[]
Geranid discovers that when she measures spren, they vary in size, luminosity, and shape. But when she makes a notation they immediately freeze in their current state.[1]
“ | The spren change when I measure them, Ashir ... . Before I measure, they dance and vary in size, luminosity, and shape. But when I make a notation, they immediately freeze in their current state. They remain that way permanently, so far as I can tell.[1]* | ” |
Characteristics[]
Geranid is skeptical of her husband's efforts with regard to foods that might please her, yet she indulges him nevertheless. She often finds his efforts terrible.[1]
Notes[]
*According to a reader, this is totally equivalent to projective measurements in quantum physics. According to Brandon, quantum physics does play a role in the way the cosmere works, and this was partially intended to display that. However, he does take a different route, as thinking about something can directly influence it in the cosmere. So it's more a fantastical version of quantum physics.[2]
Q&A with Brandon[]
Q. Belief has had a lot to do with the cosmere. For example, in Warbreaker, the appearances of the Returned[3] had a lot to do with belief. Will belief have a big part to play in The Stormlight Archive?
A. It already has. The two scholars measuring the spren.[4]
