A woman's freehand is her right hand. It is considered rude for a woman to have her left hand, known as a safehand, uncovered in Vorin culture. The freehand is therefore so called due to the fact that it is left bare, and therefore is used to carry out most tasks. Upper class (i.e., lighteyed) women very rarely are required to use their safehand, so virtually all tasks are carried out using their freehand. Lower class women, who may have harder labor involved in their daily tasks, generally only have a glove over their safehand, allowing it to be used to assist their freehand.
