Aimia
Roshar-Aimia
Type Nation/Kingdom
Location Roshar
Inhabitants Aimians

Aimia is an island nation/kingdom separated from the rest of Roshar by the Aimian Sea.

History[]

Aimia was one of the Silver Kingdoms that survived the Desolations and was a nation in the Era of Solitude. In the present day, it retains the same borders.[1]

Scouring of Aimia[]

Aimia was recently Scoured of most of its people, likely in warring over the valuable creatures known as lanceryn. When the last lanceryn was killed, it was assumed that there were no surviving beasts with gemhearts on Roshar until the chasmfiends of the Shattered Plains were discovered.[1]

The Aimians didn't want Aimia to be Scoured, but this doesn't mean that some of them may have seen what happened as a necessary. Still, according to Brandon, this was not a prevailing thing.[2]

Fauna of Aimia[]

Most 'things' - inclusive of creatures such as the lanceryn - from Aimia, are quite odd, and are also now very rare since the Scouring.[3]

Larkins were supposed to have died with the Scouring,[4] though they now remain endangered.[5]

Aimians[]

Aimians are not human.[6][7] There are two races of Aimians: Siah[8] and Dysian[9]. They are enigmatic, even on Roshar.[10]

Appearance[]

Both have deep blue, crystalline eyes and blue fingernails.

Characteristics[]

They cast shadows the wrong way (i.e., toward light, instead of away from it).[11]

They can change the markings on their skin at will.[11] This talent can be used to take notes.[9]

Dysian Aimians are more resistant to Soulcasting.[12]

Notable Aimians[]

Notable Visitors[]

According to Brandon, the Heralds and Hoid have been to Aimia.[19]

Trivia[]

The reasons that Aimians and honorspren can change shape are similarly related.[20]

Q&A with Brandon[]

Q. So, just why does Jasnah's shadow point the wrong way in the Prologue of Words of Radiance?[21]. She is, obviously, not Aimian.

A. This is because she was beginning to see/experience Shadesmar. As her Nahel bond first emerged, her connection to the Cognitive Realm strengthened. This is first shown by her shadow behaving as it does in Shadesmar, and serves as a build up to her first 'full-dive' experience later in the Prologue.[21]

Q. Do Aimians still live in Aimia?

A. The group as a whole? No. Do any? Yes.[22]

Q. Are the Dysian Aimians agents of Cultivation. If not, are they in league with another group (excluding the Knights Radiant) that we have seen?

A. Kind of yes to both – kind of.[23]

Q. Is there a Dawnshard in Aimia?

A. Yes. Well, there definitely has been a Dawnshard in Aimia in the past, that is why it has been protected so well, obviously. Maybe it is still there and maybe not, that is an open question for now.[24]
